  ACTIVITIES | Adopt-a-Highway

Who would have thought that litter patrol could be so much fun?

The West Springfield Rotary Club has participated in the Adopt-A-Highway for more than 15 years. Our assigned mile of roadway is Rolling Road which includes the area between Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill on the North to Rolling Road and the Fairfax County parkway in the south.

We collect roadside debris four times per year. Each crew averages 10 Rotarians, family members and friends. We meet at the local bagel shop at 7:15 am on our assigned Saturday to collect our orange vests, gloves, large orange trash bags and head to our assignments.

More than 75 homes and four businesses face the roadway and hundreds of homeowners use the road to access their properties. We have collected trash 60 times, with 600 participants and 600+ community hours given, and received certificates of appreciation from VDOT and many thank you’s from the neighborhood.

After our work is completed we meet back at the bagel shop to enjoy coffee and conversation. To join the fun and make a difference give Jim Kidd a call on his cell at 703-926-7923.
